About the role

About the Company: We believe every child deserves access to a high-quality public education and that families deserve trustworthy choices. Larson Communications is a strategic communications firm partnering with education reform organizations, public school systems, charter school networks and aligned nonprofits to strengthen options for families and improve outcomes for students nationwide.
About the Role: Client Value is our North Star. It’s why we’re here. The Account Executive (AE) plays a central role in delivering that value through strong media relations, sound news judgment and disciplined execution. This role is responsible for consistently generating high-quality news media placements that advance client narratives and strategic priorities. The ideal candidate brings a can-do attitude, genuine curiosity about the news cycle and a habit of taking responsibility for making things right, not just being right. They are a proactive media relations practitioner who stays observant of the media landscape, experiments with new angles and pitch approaches and can sustain narrative momentum through a consistent cadence of placements. Through curiosity, collaboration and follow-through, the AE helps clients reach national and regional audiences and advance their missions. Why Larson As an AE, you'll have real ownership over client accounts from day one, work directly with senior leadership, pitch reporters on campaigns that advance meaningful education reform across the country and have a clear path to growth as the firm expands. Our team is fully remote with members across five regions, and we invest in the professional development of everyone who joins us. How We Work 100% remote 10–20% travel for in-person team meetings, retreats, conferences and client engagements. Collaborative, mission-driven culture with a team-first mindset.
Responsibilities: Lead proactive media relations by pitching reporters, securing placements and sustaining narrative momentum with national and regional news outlets. Spot and act on timely opportunities for coverage, including trend stories, breaking news moments and newsjacking opportunities that align with client priorities. Shape storylines and narrative arcs that generate consistent media coverage over time rather than one-off placements. Build and maintain productive relationships with reporters, editors and producers across relevant platforms. Serve as a primary day-to-day client contact, building trusted relationships by identifying problems early, bringing forward solutions and demonstrating sound judgment and follow-through. Draft and finalize high-quality communications materials including press releases, media pitches, fact sheets, talking points and presentations. Represent Larson Communications as a firm ambassador, engaging with clients, media and professional peers with professionalism and a team-first mindset. You'll also track and report on media placements, coordinate outreach campaigns and pitching workflows and stay current on emerging trends in PR, media and the education landscape.
Qualifications: 3–5 years of experience in public relations, communications or public policy with significant exposure to media relations. Demonstrated experience pitching reporters and securing news media placements. A curious, observant approach to news and current events, with a demonstrated ability to spot and test compelling story angles. Strong, adaptable writing skills, particularly for press releases, pitches and media-facing communications. Ability to manage multiple workstreams and tight deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail. Bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations, communications, public policy or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Skills: Track record of consistent media placements, including in national or multi-syndicate publications. Strong news judgment and ability to identify compelling story angles tied to current events and broader trends. Strong understanding of narrative development and storytelling that drives sustained media coverage. Strong verbal communication skills and professional judgment when interacting with clients and journalists. Experience pitching across multiple beats including policy, politics, business, education or general news. Experience supporting integrated communications campaigns that combine media relations with digital and social amplification. Experience working with charter schools, public school systems or education reform organizations a plus. Familiarity with tools such as Asana, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite and media databases. Pay Range and Compensation Package
Salary range: $46,300–$60,000, based on experience, qualifications, organizational equity and budget. Comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision, mental health and life insurance. 401(k) with matching contribution. Professional development opportunities. Flexible vacation and sick time. Paid company holidays. Equal Opportunity Statement Larson Communications welcomes applicants of all backgrounds with unique perspectives who align with our mission, values and standards and who are ready to take ownership and deliver results that matter.

Before you apply

Applying takes about a minute. These four things decide how fast it moves after that.

Your profile is current

It's what we read first. Occupations, seniority and locations matter more than a long history.

Two examples you can talk through

Not a portfolio — just two pieces of work where you can explain the decisions and what you'd change.

A number in mind

What you're on now and what would make you move. We negotiate better when we know both.

Your notice period

Employers plan around it, and it's the question that stalls offers most often.

Once you apply, someone reads it and calls you before anything reaches the employer — usually within two working days.
